Find Your Freedom through
Structural Integration

Welcome to Session 3

“The body is solid material wrapped around the breath.”- Ida P. Rolf, Ph.D.

Session 3 of the Balanced Body series

Session 3 is the final superficial fascial session. We have explored the up in Session 1 and the down in Session 2. In this session, we will be exploring the body’s ability to expand and enjoy a sense of depth.

We are 3-D bodies that often only think in front of ourselves. After all, that is where our eyes are. In Session 3, we work along the side of the body to reactivate the line that defines the front and back body.

We also work more deeply into the shoulder and around the lower back to make sure both the shoulder girdle and the pelvic girdle can rotate and move more freely.

Focus

Intention for Session 3: Find your Depth

Terrain: neck, arms/shoulders, torso, back, pelvis, thighs

Experience the dimension of depth (front to back balance). Your arms and shoulders will be free and fluid. Your rib cage and hips will be able to rotate in opposition to each other with more freedom improving breath capacity and balance.

Theme: Expand

The theme of this session is EXPAND. Expansion vs contraction. Expanding your understanding of your own felt sense of movement. Expanding and making room for the deeper sessions 4-7.

Thoughts to consider in preparation for this session:

Do you generally feel expanded or contracted in life?

What do you reach out for? What do you draw back from?

When you hear the word expand, how does it make you feel?

Notice your arms. Do you “carry” your arms with the shoulders pulled up and in? Do your arms swing when you walk?

If you were to stand in front of a group of people with your arms at your sides, how might that feel?

What to wear

We will be working on the upper body primarily. Note for women: it is challenging to work around tight sports bras, so regular bras, bandeaus, or tank tops work best.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I look forward to seeing you!

Warmly,

Cara
